Thank you to the many people who supported the Hollins Trophy held over
the June long weekend. It is this support which makes Hollins such a
successful weekend .

Briar Harold's school nominated her for the Strathfield Youth Achievement
Award 2008 which she has won in the category of: Senior Individual Sports
Award

Samantha Kadar
has been awarded a scholarship as part of the Pre-Elite Development
Program for athletes with a disability.

The Clubs Senior Dance champions, Danielle O'Brien & Greg Merriman,

The Clubs Senior Synchronised Skating team competed at the
Synchronised World Championships 29th & 30th March, 2008. They placed
19/22 and with personal best of 97.19 PHOTOS- 111,
222, 333,
444, 555,
666, 777,

The
Club now has an adult synchronised skating team. Ultimately its all about
how much you are enjoying yourself...................so we really hope you
enjoy yourself! Anyone wishing to join this group, which is part of a club
with a very long history of synchronized skating................please talk
to Yvonne Hart or Jo Harold (SFSC Committee members) and they will point
you in the right direction)

The Clubs Junior synchronised skating team placed 16/18 at Junior Worlds,
and 3rd at the Snowflake Junior competiton in Croatia, achieving personal
bests at both competitions. CLICK

The Clubs Senior Dance champions, Danielle O'Brien & Greg Merriman,
are currently competing at Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in
Korea. This is their first year competing at Senior level.

On the 19th February the NSWISA General Meeting is being held. If you were
a senior or adult member as at Dec 31 you have a right to vote for members
on the NSWISA Council.

Cheltzie Lee, our Junior Champion, is competing at Junior World
Championships in Bulgaria in Feb 25

At the end of February, our Junior Synchronised Skating team leave to
compete at the World Challenge Cup for Juniors in France and then on to
compete in the Snowflake Cup in Croatia
**
The first Aussie Skate competition for the year is on March 2nd at
Canterbury. Yvonne Hart is taking entries now.

In mid March our Senior Synchronised Skating team leave to compete in the
Snowflake Cup in Croatia, and then on to compete at the Senior World
Championships in Hungary
**
We have a Canterbury Skate School competition, for our Aussie Skate
members, on Mar 30 but you must be a participating skater in the
Canterbury Skate Schools on Mondays or Saturdays in order to compete. This
competition will include an Adult section.

*April 13th we have Trophy Night which is open to skaters from all Clubs.
Pre-primary and above skaters will skate their short program.

Brad Santer, one of the clubs "old boys" is the lead in High
School Musical, skating at the Acer Arena in Homebush.
**
The SFSC Club Championships are on at the end of May. Skaters pre-primary
and above will skate there long program only. Our Championship will be
combined with the Liverpool Club Championships and held at Canterbury. The
highest level skater from each club, in each division, will be that Clubs
champion.
**
and then.......................Hollins in June, States in July and
Nationals in August !!!!
**
Tests start at the end of February & dates are noted above under test
news.

The clubs Registrar Anita Lawrence-Porter, has been busy taking
memberships & issuing membership cards. Forms are available in the
"Forms" section of the web site or at the rink.
**
SFSC tracksuits are available for sale. Yen Nguyen, another of the clubs
committee, sets up a table on Monday afternoons & Saturday mornings.
Jackets & pants can be purchased separately. She also has material
about the Club so please wander on over.

Sarah-Yvonne Prytula is in Sydney taking a break from the ice show on a
ship in the Caribbean. Sarah started skating at Canterbury when she was
very young in the Canterbury Skate School.

Congratulations to Sonya & Tim Heinecke on the birth of twin
daughters
**
At the Schoolgirls Breakfast with the Stars 2008, the winner of the Sue
Fear Courage and Achievement Award in Sport will be announced.
Samantha Kadar is a finalist for the award. Best wishes from the NSWISA,
SFSC and the whole skating community Samantha.

After 28 year of operation the Blacktown ice rink is closing on the 28th
of October. This is very sad news. On behalf of SFSC, we wish all of the
BCAFSC members the best of luck.

SFSC AGM 30th October, 2007- at Canterbury Ice rink
**
Danielle Bartels was invited to compete with the 2007 Cross Country Tour
in the USA last month. She tore a ligament in the first race but managed
to compete in all races. In the last race she gave it everything she had
and managed to claim 5th place in the last race!
**A great result for Cheltzie Lee who just competed at her first Junior
Grand prix in Vienna............... 5th out of a field of 33 competitors
!!!! Congratulations !

Sydney Figure Skating Club skaters are celebrating their achievements
at the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in Warner’s Bay over the weekend.

Congratulations to the 2007 New South Wales Champions. Ammellia Fu
(Elementary Ladies 12 and Under), Cameron Hemmert (Primary Mens Champion),
Cheltzie Lee (Junior Ladies Champion), Fire on Ice Junior (Junior
Synchronised Champions) Fire on Ice Senior (Senior Synchronised Champions)

Congratulations to skaters who competed in the NSW State Championships last
week. It is wonderful to see the good sportsmanship, determination and
courage of the competitors at an event like this.
**
The SFSC Night of Champions is being held at 4pm on August 5th at the
Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink. This is a great opportunity to see SFSC members
who will be competing at the Australian National Championships in August.
**

Our Aussie skate winners are Thomas Masters and Mathew Hart. They were the
top scorers for the SFSC with Thomas Masters placing first.

Mission
Statement
The Sydney
Figure Skating Club will continue to grow and improve its State and
National standard of competitive achievement by:
Managing
SFSC activities with the interests and development of skaters as
paramount, in a safe and supportive environment
Pro-actively
promoting Ice skating at all levels of competition in order to attract
and retain new members.
This will include a calendar of events which
caters for all skating levels.
Securing key sponsorship
and generating sufficient financial resources to support ongoing
development programs.
